Advantages

Low water absorption for a Nylon ( c. 2.5% at saturation ).  Reasonable UV resistance compared to other Nylons. Higher strength and better heat resistance than Nylon 12.

Disadvantages

More expensive than Nylon 6 or Nylon 6/6.  Low impact strength.

Polymer Type

Thermoplastic

Advantages

Good tensile strength, creep resistance and heat distortion temperature combined with low mould shrinkage and good dimensional stability compared with unmodified PA 11.

Disadvantages

Low elongation at break and poor resistance to abrasion compared with unmodified PA 11. More difficult to process than glass bead filled grades due to high melt viscosity. Mechanical properties can be highly anisotropic.
